A routine for working from home

Organizes a work-from-home day in a table that balances tasks, meetings and breaks.

What you send

Organize my work-from-home day in a table showing times, tasks, focus blocks and breaks, keeping meetings and lunch fixed, using my best focus hours and leaving some buffer time.

I am Nour, working from home on 12 October 2026 from 9 am to 5 pm. I have meetings from 10 to 10:30 and 2 to 2:45, and lunch from 1 to 1:30. I need two hours to write a report, one hour to review files and 45 minutes for email. I focus best in the morning and prefer work blocks of no more than 50 minutes.

What you get

Here’s a balanced 9:00–5:00 work-from-home plan for Nour. I kept the meetings and lunch fixed, placed the most demanding work in the morning focus window, split all work into blocks of 50 minutes or less, and added buffer time.

Time Task Focus block Break/buffer
9:00–9:45 Report writing Report focus block 1 — 45 min —
9:45–10:00 Break / buffer — 15 min
10:00–10:30 Meeting — Fixed meeting
10:30–11:20 Report writing Report focus block 2 — 50 min —
11:20–11:35 Break — 15 min
11:35–12:25 File review Review focus block 1 — 50 min —
12:25–12:40 Break / buffer — 15 min
12:40–1:00 Email Email focus block 1 — 20 min —
1:00–1:30 Lunch — Fixed lunch — 30 min
1:30–1:45 Email Email focus block 2 — 15 min —
1:45–2:00 Buffer — 15 min
2:00–2:45 Meeting — Fixed meeting
2:45–3:10 Buffer / break — 25 min
3:10–3:35 Report writing Report focus block 3 — 25 min —
3:35–3:50 Break — 15 min
3:50–4:00 File review Review focus block 2 — 10 min —
4:00–4:10 Email Email focus block 3 — 10 min —
4:10–5:00 Buffer / flexible wrap-up — 50 min

Plan totals

  • Report writing: 2 hours total — split into 45, 50, and 25 minutes
  • File review: 1 hour total — split into 50 and 10 minutes
  • Email: 45 minutes total — split into 20, 15, and 10 minutes
  • Fixed meetings: 10:00–10:30 and 2:00–2:45
  • Fixed lunch: 1:00–1:30
  • Discretionary breaks/buffers: 2 hours 30 minutes total

The morning is used for the highest-focus work, especially the report and most of the file review. The final 50 minutes is left flexible for overflow, admin, or a calm end-of-day wrap-up.

How it works

  1. Share your work hours, meetings and tasks.
  2. Review the focus blocks and breaks in the table.
  3. Try the routine and adjust the timing to fit your day.
